FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
for ALGE Timing devices
with Computers
Q: I have a new Laptop without
an RS232 Interface. What can I do?
A: You
have to buy an Interface Converter like an USB-RS232 or
PCMCIA-RS232 Converter.
Normally PCMCIA-RS232
Adapters are more expensive but more reliable.
Q: I have a USB-RS232 Adapter
installed. But how can I find out the port number?
A:
Right mouse click to "My Computer". click "Properties".
click "Hardware". click "Device Manager" click "Ports
(Com&LPT)".
There you should
find your Adapter and your port number. If you see a "!"
before the device, the driver installation failed.
In this case read
the manual of the Adapter vendor.
Q: I have an isolated USB-RS232 Adapter
installed. Some times can be transmitted, some not. Where is
the problem?
Some cheap isolated USB-RS232 Adapters
take their power from the signal. This is wrong. Please use
an other Adapter. We have some on stock.
Q: My Com Port is blocked. But I
do not have any Application open. What can I do?
A: If a
timing device is connected to the computer at startup, it
can happen that Windows installs a device called "MS
Ballpoint"
This is wrong. Be sure
that the timing device is disconnected or off at windows
startup (Including wakeup from suspend state).
Q: I have Windows Vista or
Windows 7 64Bit Edition. My driver does work. What can I do?
A:
Maybe the driver is not properly installed. Open the device
manager and check if the driver is properly installed.
How to install the
right driver, please check the manuals.
Q: I get an error message
"Socket Error #10065 No route to host" when I try to start a
program.
When I connect a
Network cable to the computer this error message does not
appear. What can I do?
A: How to fix this problem see: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/239924/
Sometimes also a fixed IP is necessary.
Q: I downloaded a file from
Alge-Timing. But I cannot open it. Error message: file is
corrupted.
A: There was a problem when you
downloaded the file. Maybe with virusscanner/firewall/internet
connection. Try to clear the cache in your browser and try
again. 2nd possibility: use a download manager like http://www.freedownloadmanager.org/download.htm
Q: I need support with on my PC
A: Phone to Alge-Timing (+43-5577-85966)
